Perhaps an unforgivable metaphor, given Friday’s massacre in Odessa, of “separatists” by pro-junta thugs (see Justin Raimondo’s latest column at Antiwar.com for details on the western media spin — they’re trying to pretend it’s “unclear” whether 38 people were murdered or burned themselves to death for no discernible reason).
But that’s not what this post is about. What this post is about is who’s behind the latest developments in Ukraine:
Germany’s Bild newspaper is reporting dozens of FBI and CIA agents on the ground in the capital of Kiev “advising” the government.
The move was initially presented as focusing on organized crime, with the FBI team sent specifically to track down ousted President Viktor Yanukovych’s hidden accounts. Now, however, they are said to also be advising them on the ongoing offensive against eastern protesters.
We’ve been here before. I’m barely old enough to remember the sputtering end of the US war in Vietnam and the Chile coup, and was only really approaching adulthood at the height of the Nicaragua and El Salvador affairs, but I’ve read my history and have a pretty good idea what kind of advice US “advisers” give to tottering client states.
There will, sooner or later, be blowback. ‘Nuff said.
