As a libertarian, I am pleased to see such a coalition emerging. I don’t consider myself right-wing-I think of libertarianism as part of the “radical center”-but, I want this war to end, and the pursue peaceful foreign policy alternatives. War is mass murder.

    • The agenda of Come Home America can be spotlighted with the model for action given below… previously posted — possibly — on Moore’s site.
PERIPHERAL DIFFERENCES CAN BE PUT ASIDE.
I would like Moore and Zeese and all of those who support what they stand for to contact me regarding an important supplementary action… which should be supported — simultaneously — as efforts are directed toward the federal level, as petitions of national importance are collecting signatures, as bodies gather to protest according to the usual modesl for action. In California, there is an opportunity for people involved in the Occupy Movement and others to get on board with a legal and nonviolent paradigm for securing the reins of power in the state (to send ripples nationwide) in 2014. Details upon request, of course, but — in short — there are openings for citizens to be one of a twelve unaffiliated, non-politician committee designed to serve — on an equal basis together — as Governor of California in lieu of having another self-serving careerist at the helm. This attempt to secure reins of power acknowledges that neither the two major parties nor the “permanently marginalized” (as things stand) third parties can serve our purposes. Not soon enough. And so… instead of relying primarily or exclusively on obsolete models for action, we would like to move in solidarity with whoever reads this following a fresh paradigm for change. Again, detailed delineation upon request. Blessings in solidarity, Roque Ochsman aptosnews@gmail.com or 707-994-1839 in Clear Lake, California at any hour. The tentative acronym for the effort is TOSCA, as in Taking Over the State of California; MANY things can be done unilaterally by a Guv, without compromise with career politicians. This is truly something new.

    To the Editor:

It seems that most people of conscience believe that military spending in this country is way out of control. It also seems that most of us have not done anything about it and don’t know what to do. There is a disturbing fatalism abroad in the land around war and military spending.

For the short list of issues deserving citizen action and a voice of conscience, surely America’s addiction to permanent war qualifies.

Here is an action which anyone can take.

On April 15 when you mail in your 1040 income tax form, enact a small act of civil disobedience. Refuse to pay $10.40 of the bill, donate it to a humane cause, and submit a letter to IRS explaining why. Speak of freedom of conscience, freedom to practice religion, the unspoken and denied horrors of war, the needs of the poor, the futility of the spiral of violence, and the power of nonviolence. Send that letter not only to IRS, but to your local paper, your family and friends, spiritual community and legislators. Say something in praise of the Egyptians and Arabs who are demonstrating for democracy, and ask whether demonstrations for democracy are welcome in this country. This action will be a vote for the practice of democracy, the engagement of citizens, in setting the national budget priorities of this nation.

I have been reading Kauffman on Front Porch Republic – have been antiwar all my life, but now living in Indiana, having lost job to outsourcing working for civilians who “genuflect before the military” (thank you, Prof. Deneen) in healthcare in Dayton, Ohio, where they merged the hospital where I worked with the defense sector/contractors, etc. “Spy” school too on “Pentagon Boulevard,” formerly New Germany-Trebein Road – nothing so honorable as the old OSS or the 1950′s CIA, just another economic growth industry in Rep. Boehner’s/Turner’s districts. Great idea (ComeHome), because in the Midwest there is no Left really, there is only economic liberalism calling itself “conservative” and some libertarianism, but all of it Wilsonian internationalist – the state universities, business, the one party that gets elected in my area and the only one with power in the state. So any change will have to come from the Right side of the fence … they don’t read Andrew Bacevich or Paul Craig Roberts here or even seem to know they exist.

    Hello All,

Please take the 5 1/2 minutes to listen to the following video concerning Veterans For Peace’s partisan, double-standard in calling for impeachment for war criminal U.S. presidents. Thank you.

Veteran For Peace Phil Restino with Joyce Riley – Impeach Obama

    March 22, 2011

Central Florida chapter co-chair Phil Restino of Veterans For Peace called in to the weekly morning radio program The Power Hour with Joyce Riley http://www.thepowerhour.com to join in the discussion concerning President Obama’s ordering of a U.S. “Shock and Awe” type military attack on the sovereign nation of Libya beginning with the U.S. firing of over 100 cruise missles which hit multiple locations in Libya on Saturday, March 19, 2011 … eight years to the day of his predecessor George W. Bush’s own “Shock and Awe” unilateral attack on the sovereign nation of Iraq.

Phil told of how the Central Florida chapter of Veterans For Peace passed a resolution on July 7, 2009 calling for the impeachment of President Obama for war crimes. The resolution was the result of an article written by chapter member Tom Santoni in response to President Obama’s ordering of deadly drone bombings on the sovereign nation of Pakistan just 3 days after taking office in January 2009. The article, “IMPEACH OBAMA!”, was published on February 2, 2009 and began the process of the Central Florida chapter’s taking on the issue of calling for removal from office of President Obama by means of impeachment, just as Veterans For Peace as a national organization had called for the impeachment of Obama’s predecessor President Bush citing the same war crimes and prosecuting wars of aggression.

Also discussed was the President’s unique authority to order a cease-fire at any time … as President George H.W. Bush ordered a cease-fire to the First Gulf War on February 28, 1991 … and how President Obama had the responsibility to do so the minute he took office on January 20, 2009 or else be party to the same war crimes committed by his predecessor President George W. Bush.

Joyce asked why after 2 years since Obama assumed the Presidency was Veterans For Peace still applying the very clear double-standard of calling for the impeachment of the Republican George Bush and not calling for the impeachment of the Democrat Barack Obama for the very same war crimes. Phil went on to answer by sharing his experiences with Veterans For Peace’s national leadership rejecting the impeachment resolution 2 years in a row.

When it was mentioned that Rep. Dennis Kucinich had indicated publicly that President Obama’s ordering of the U.S. attack on Libya, without even consulting the U.S. Congress … let alone waiting for Congress to grant a Declaration of War as required by the U.S. Constitution … Phil pointed out that the antiwar organizations shouldn’t be the ones waiting for a political figure to give them “cover” by calling for impeachment, but rather it is the job of the antiwar organizations to be the ones to first call for impeachment so as to give the political figure the “cover” needed to risk making such a call.

Is Obama’s boo-boo ‘He broke the law’ a gift to enable plea bargaining?

I am campaigning in Wales (bradleymanningcymru.wordpress.com). We hope the punitive conditions will end now, next we ideally want him back to serve his sentence here. Then the sentence sensible.

Is there any chance of using the flawed process and this golden blunder as bargaining weight?
I would welcome a direct contact to see what the UK / EU legal profession and other professions can do to influence events.

If you are serious about getting signatures, WHY DON’T YOU PROVIDE A PLACE TO SIGN, instead of a vague reference to an arcane procedure to comment or send a letter with a note in the subject line?

    • Phil Restino says:

      Hi John,

Thank you for writing. I’m sorry about the trouble with the petition. I have not set up a petition page for electronic signatures and our chapter’s website was being managed by one of our members who has since moved on … and I have not yet learn how to do either one. Do you guys plan to get someone who DOES know how to set up a petition to take care of that for you? The cut and paste boilerplate response to the three people above with the same concern doesn’t really cut it. I think it’s in your interest to have a petition on the actual site that can consolidate all the support there is for ending the unnecessary wars. I think that’s far more effective and efficient than just entreating folks to download and fax off a ton of paper to you guys to express support.

Aside of that, is there a chapter of Come Home America in New York City?

I’m canadian and our foreign policies are strongly tied to the U.S.’s. Therefore, I support actions to bring “democracy” (in one form or another) to our Continent. One thing that really bothers me is the word “America” constantly used instead of U.S. of A. I guess it’s been used for so long by all immigrants hoping to find the “pot of gold” that everyone is brainwashed…Americans think too big??? Again, “America” is a CONTINENT; you are talking about North America? Yes! Let’s all get up and rebuild our countries so we have Justice and Peace at home and all over the world.

I’m not a Nationalist and don’t believe in borders! We are all ONE!

  11. zoe z says:

    Real Solution to Terror:
Ranked Ballot (voters ranking candidates in order of preference) will give us (PRACTICABLE!) Instant TRUE Democracy for ALL the World, & even put an end to all war forever.

Because it gives an equal chance of winning to not just all parties, but all combinations of programs, “RB” is the only thing that’s truly both just & free. Because it always elects the candidate most exactly in the middle of all voting, RB is top-dead-center counter extremist, & thus more anti-terrorist than all the many recent retrenchments combined & thus will even disallow the tendency of (virtually two-party) parliamentary systems to give the top to the biggest gang on the block, sometimes with violently extremist results.

RB is the sole unchangeable plank & bylaw of a Ranked Ballot Party, the only practicable third party.) We imagine running on the single issue of RB, promising a citizens’ advisory board based on Organized Communications, “OC”, small randomly assigned discussion groups electing reps to higher & higher randomly assigned levels, by means of RB, ‘til one small group, most exactly in the middle of all voting, remains at the top, to guide us in the rest, which group by its merest invitation to speak inevitably names the perfect compromise & next winner That’s the instant part. You do the same, from the most local on up.
By the power of its example alone, RB will give us practicable instant worldwide true democracy. Virtually no democracy has ever been attacked by another. In a world of only democracies, there would no longer be need of the counter-productive wastefulness of armies, war or the preparation for war. RB will bring us that & all else: a real solution to terror, a perfect marriage of Freedom & Justice, Tradition & Modernity, Palestinian & Jew, Free Market & Communalism, all the fairness, payback & make-up one could wish for, clean back to the Cro-Magnons, ecologically sustainable politics, what’s best for all workers, instant global women’s liberation, world-wide luxury, a rationalization of the drug wars, human unity, the Freedom of Justice & the Justice of Freedom, perhaps the only possible solution to the world’s only real problem, the Israeli/Palestinian conflict (once they both are made to have to adopt RB), even integrity. RB is to the horse & buggy two-party system as shopping in the Mall of America is to shopping in Soviet Russia. The majority of the problems we face are due to the heavy-footedness of the two party system. RB lessens the power of the extremes, whether authoritarian, economic or sectarian, except through what they can gain by persuasion, which is only what’s just. While it would be equally useful for all else, RB’s real power is perhaps most clearly shown in the case of Iraq. Unless its Parliament comes to select the Prime Minister by means of RB, it may not hold & the country, region & world will be in danger of going to war over some ancient grudge, oil well, multi-ethnic city, or sabotaged pipeline. While the new constitution does call for the selection of the President by a 2/3 vote in the first round (even if only by the parliament & not the people) (who may then decide who will form the new government) & then by a run-off between the top two vote getters in the second round, if that fails to move all three tribes to nominate centrists, then the resulting handful of old men in a back room will fall far short of RB’s ultimate retail politics. RB would be equally useful for all electoral systems (parliamentary or presidential, the parliaments choosing their PMs by RB from among their members, lest they produce another Hitler or other extreme) coops, collective leaderships, tribal groupings, religious confessions, political parties, associations or, even cabals. Whoever gets there first wins. For leaders to best represent their country, or district, whether chosen at large or by a representative body, they must be the perfect compromise, most exactly in the middle, as is given by RB. Yet because it gives minorities a real say in which member of the plurality/majority gets chosen, RB is the only thing that will lead Iraqis, or anyone else, to support any plan more than inadequate confederation. It will result in “phantasmagoric subtlefaction”, real-time alternatives to all proposals, from wherever: market, coop or social, or tribal, theological or universal, answering infinitely more questions at a time than the two party system’s “who is least bad”. Both more Liberty & Justice can be found in RB than in any ideology. With brakes & reverse comes no more need to suppress popular movements around the world. RB will give us subtlety, responsivity, light-footedness, long-sightedness, objectivity, economy, unity, accountability, integrity & victory over extremism. Palestinians & Jews will give up fighting over a sliver of desert & become members of global cooperatives, all the various forms of hegemonism, whether up front, subterranean or unconscious, will be given up, in exchange for leading the world to the light, & America will finally realize the need for an adequate, howsoever minimal, safety net as the price & foundation of a free market.
Help put this idea, in time, to as many as possible, before “Clockwork Orange” (overpopulation), “1984” (high-tech dictatorship), cosmic collision, tectonic, economic or environmental collapse, or literalist or criminal contretemps. The cost of a full page national ad (sufficient to put RB to virtually all the world) would be repaid in no time, once all that money gets put to actual productive use, at pre-9/11 US annual defense spending of $10,000 per family. Ten to the power of ten (ten levels of groups of ten) would be sufficient to organize & unite all mankind.
RB is very freeing. Because it always chooses the candidate in the middle, all who support it are perfectly top-dead-center, with no more need to fear self expression. Politics will become a family discussion around the kitchen table, with no more jumping back & forth between extremes, or absence of the economists’ requirement of predictability for growth. All that’s needed is to let go of the nut & get your fist back out of the knothole, to free yourself, & to rest in the knowledge that RB will give us perfect Freedom & perfect Justice, at one & the same time, even if not necessarily in the form imagined, as if anyone would then care. For instance, no woman ever got pregnant to have an abortion, but RB will make the point moot. Good enough for New Zealand, Australia, Kerala India, Iraq, London, Ireland, Cambridge Mass, Burlington & 95% of the townships of Vermont, Pierce County Washington, St Paul & Minneapolis Minnesota, the Utah Republican Party for the selection of statewide candidates, the platforms of both the Green & Libertarian Parties & 50 college student bodies across the US with more places coming every year, but not good enough for the rest of us? It must be in somebody’s interest! How can any wish it of others if they do not have it themselves? Having spent every spare moment from the invasion, to the vote on the constitution emailing every Iraqi we could find about RB, we would like to claim some little credit for the reforms they did adopt. The only imaginable definition of Freedom (& Morality) is “Do as you wish, but harm no other”. The maker & sustainer of this world (& cosmos!) could have no need of one bit of it. The fiercer the history of the planet, the sooner it would have been blissed out behind ethnic homogeneity, & thus democracy. Tax consumption, not investment, & spread the productivity around. All powers to their lowest appropriate level. All human evil is due to the out of phase fluctuation of population & food supply, so no-one alive is responsible for the mess we find ourselves in, except for what they do now. Justice is the redress of past violence, Freedom the current absence of violence & Nonviolence the only basis of all Morality. Just go out & collect signatures, asking those who sign to collect them for you as well. The more the merrier. (The “additive” form of RB is to count the first choices & if no-one has 50%, to add in the next choices, & so on until someone finally does.) “Consider that which is common in the sight of all men.” Zoe z, realzoe@hotmail.com

  15. I respect your efforts. However, you seem rather misguided to suggest Obama has a choice in this. Obama is a puppet, and a liar, as are all politicians. They are all on a very short leash, all of them. If Obama seriously suggested ending war, how long do you think he would live? Honestly! If you question this statement, you are living in an American dream world. The owners of this country, and the world, are the money lenders. Don’t you remember, folks? Follow the money. It works every time. These are not the old days of protesting and expressing yourself. Technology, if you’ve been following it, has advanced immensely in the last few years. The security state has vacuumed up every advance made under the guise of national security. The U.S. government is poised to maintain full spectrum dominance at any cost. Slaughter of their own citizens will not cause them to bat an eye. Quit being naive. Anyone, anyone who seriously challenges their supremacy will die or disappear. Does one of you really doubt this?
I wholeheartedly agree with your premise. However, letters and non-violent protest will get you nowhere. It will merely make people like Cheney, Bush, Obama, Addington, Yoo, Pearle, Wolfowitz, Feith, and the whole host of evil miscreant bastards laugh. You have the the executive, judicial and legislative branches of our government against you. The defense industry is against you. The media is merely a mind control apparatus and the American people now have a average IQ that allows them to get to work, to shop, and then home again. Critical thinking is a thing of the past.
Oh yes, there is a way to accomplish our goals. Realistically. However, as Hillary Clinton says, “All options must remain on the table.” Signing a letter isn’t action, however good it feels.
The reality is that the bus has already gone over the cliff. Fight for control of the steering wheel if it makes you feel better.
Our country has a cancer. Cancers are gotten rid of by gentle, moderate means. Ask any doctor.
All I’m saying is that your heart is in the right place. The means are naive.

WAKE UP AMERICA…. WE MUST…..WAKE UP OR THE FUTURE WILL NOT BE VERY ROSY THIS CENTURY…..!!!!!!

Or else we will loose everything we built up after WWII….

Are we really afraid of being protectionists….or should we STOP IMPORTS….or slow it down a lot so our decimated industries can get back in the game and compete against Asia and other foreign countries……..

After 45 years of offering Exports to Asia it is no wonder we have no jobs at home in America……plus our richest companies now are Importers but do not have jobs for Americans at home…as we have finally hit the Wall…finally…I am not surprised as everything now is going up in price…it is called inflation for sure….that will be the final blow to America….

How about picketing all the US Malls who carry 95% of Imports like in my 2 industries….Manufacturers who are hanging on still and who are still in business but have been decimated or many others have gone out of business for the last 45 years because they could not compete with Foreign countries or American Importers either………..so “America” …. and at any store that sells Imports…Picket them…they will eventually get the message and sell American products eventually …….and say in your picket signs that WE WILL NOT BUY IMPORTS ANYMORE…and…SELL ONLY MADE IN THE USA PRODUCTS….those IMPORTS benefits all the Special Interest Folks who eliminated our Manufacturing bases over the last 45 years…with the help of our Government and with campaign financing which they offered to legislators to pass just the right bills for them in exchange……..I have seen it happen with my own eyes….IMPORTS are our long lost jobs mostly transferred in Asia…..picketing with signs will raise the ears of those Buyers who put Imports in our Retail Stores and who sell them willingly to naive consumers……consumers who have zero ideas that they are eliminating American Jobs….so…..!!!!!!

Also wondering why we have a 2% of rich folks who have as much money as the rest of the 98%…IMPORTS are full of benefits and profits…that is why our Retailers don’t buy American made products….as there less profits in buying or selling American products for sure….this issue Imports has contributed to our demise economically for a very long time….

Many of us are already Liberals….but Liberals & Conservatives and folks in the middle have all created this economic problem over the last 45 years……..and it has not helped in this century or the last one to have 2 parties that can’t work together in Washington or in our 50 States………as they don’t have common senses on how to fix America….how many times more am I going to vote out legislators and replace them with another while the problems get worse after I voted…….!!!!!

What do we have to be and do to overcome our present situation….???? START OVER…!!!
Here is one of my ideas to fix our economy first and get our jobs back…….STOP IMPORTS…!!!…and stop trading Boeing Airplanes for Sweat shirts with China……it won’t work well for us to Trade this stupid way……..Imports are Imports that have eliminated our jobs sources at home….!!!!

And is becoming protectionist necessary…..!!! YES

And can we overcome the world order that we impose on many countries…!!! YES if we don’t get involved unless someone attacks us….

    And so on….and on…..and on…..!!!!

So… Stop Imports and slow down Asia or they will control all of our best markets….and Asia will have the jobs for their People and we won’t….it’s that simple.

  20. THE MESSAGE BELOW I ATTEMPTED TO POST ON MOORE’S SITE. PLEASE KNOW THAT THE MODEL FOR SUPPLEMENTARY ACTION DESCRIBED WOULD SPOTLIGHT THE AGENDA OF COME HOME AMERICA. ON THAT BASIS, I TRUST SOMEONE WILL CONTACT ME.
I just received a Newsmax email filled with hyperbole including the President’s unprecedented assault on our personal freedoms; for example: Habeas corpus—the right to not be imprisoned without trial. You folks might want to get a minimum of the facts correct. Habeas corpus was obliterated under President Bush. September 28, 2006 The bill was a compromise between the White House and three Republican senators who had pushed back against what they saw as President Bush’s attempt to rewrite the nation’s obligations under the Geneva Conventions. But while the president had to relent on some of the key specifics, it allowed him to claim victory in achieving one of his main legislative priorities.

“As our troops risk their lives to fight terrorism, this bill will ensure they are prepared to defeat today’s enemies and address tomorrow’s threats,” Mr. Bush said in a statement shortly after the vote.

A similar bill was passed by the House of Representatives on Wednesday by a vote of 253 to 168, and the measure should be ready to go to Mr. Bush by the end of the week for his signature.

Republicans argued that the new rules would provide the necessary tools to fight a new kind of enemy. “Our prior concept of war has been completely altered, as we learned so tragically on September 11th, 2001,” said Senator Saxby Chambliss, Republican of Georgia. “And we must address threats in a different way.”

Democrats argued that the rules were being rushed through for political gain too close to a major election, that they would fundamentally threaten the foundations of the American legal system, and that they would come back to haunt lawmakers as one of the greatest mistakes in history.
